It is with great sorrow for ourselves, but great joy for her, that our family announces the
peaceful returning home of Barbara Meeko Sanders on October 27, 2024, after a hard-
fought battle with an chronic illness that progressed suddenly. She was surrounded by
her family and her pastor. Barbara was 80 years old and resided in Milton, GA. Born
July 23,1944 in Minneapolis, MN to Robert and Virginia Meeko, both deceased, she is
survived by her devoted husband, Bud; Daughters Darby (Bryan) Baird, Roswell, GA
and Michelle (Douglas) Hicks, Cumming, GA; and her nine grandchildren, Brice,
Brianna, Sarah Grace, Shelby, Katelyn, Annelise, James, Charlie and William. She was
preceded in death by her daughter Christine Turner. She is also survived by countless
others that called her Mom or Sister, into whom she poured great wisdom and love.
Barbara loved well.
Barbara had many passions including painting – a gift she received for the last third of
her life, with which she used to bless others with her incredible artwork. She loved
spending time in her garden. A Biologist by training and vocation, she saw God and His
design in all of nature. She watched the birds in her garden, knowing when each
species would be passing through. Barbara also had a divine purpose of mentoring and
walking with other woman through difficult and trying times. Her words, both spoken and
written, have helped to build a legacy that will live on for generations.
First and foremost, though, Barbara had a passion for her Jesus. She would often
spend hours in His word, studying, learning, while building a deeper relationship with
Him.
