Christel Straughan

Chrys Straughan, age 86, of Cumming passed away Wednesday with her loving family by her side.

Chrys was born in Belize City to the late Jim Hyde and Eunice Locke Hyde.  She was a secretary for the University of the West Indies in Belize.  She was a devout follower of the Bahá'í faith worshipping in the Forsyth Community.  Chrys was an avid reader, champion Scrabble player, and writer.  She had a great passion for the ocean and for the arts.  Chrys was loving, charismatic, and strong willed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Gilbert Straughan, Sr.; brothers, James Hyde, George Hyde, Roy Hyde, and Simeon Ebanks; sister, Corrine Hyde; and brother in law, Harrison Grant.

She is survived by her daughter and her spouse, Maxine Straughan-Lozano and Cleo Alison of Cumming; her son and his spouse, Roy Gilbert Straughan, Jr. and Diane Humes of Buford; eleven grandchildren, Rashida Gordon, Theron Gordon, Linden Gordon, Kristen Gordon, Kamau Straughan, Morgan Regina Sarai Straughan, Devon Lozano, Nicolé Lozano, Brittni Lozano, Courtney, Lozano, and Shayla Lozano; one great grandchild, Sy’air Gordon; brother and his spouse, Charles and Elinor Hyde of Belize City; sister, Grace Grant of Belize City; sister in law, Helen Hyde of Port St. Lucie, Florida; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

A graveside service will take place at 2:00 P.M. Friday in the Bahá'í section of Macedonia Memorial Park.
