Elizabeth-Ellen “Betsy” Devine Williams, of Alpharetta Georgia, died on Wednesday, June
14, at Northside Hospital in Alpharetta, after a short illness. She was 80.
Betsy was born in New York City, the third of four children, to Dr. and Mrs. Robert Devine.
Her mother was a psychiatric nurse, and Betsy initially followed their scientific footsteps
by graduating college with a B.A. in Biology, but instead began a career with AT&T, which
eventually led her to move with her husband, Chester A. “Al” Williams, to Conyers, Georgia,
in 1991.
Betsy and Al loved their life in Georgia, and became so much a part of the community that
Betsy worked for ten happy years for the Conyers-Rockdale library system after her
retirement from AT&T, until she lost her vision. Betsy was also a proud volunteer for the
1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.
Betsy moved in with her daughter, son-in-law and her eight grandchildren after the passing
of her husband in 2005; the family moved to Alpharetta in 2016, where she spent her last
years surrounded by loving family.
Betsy is survived by her three daughters: Elizabeth Williams Bushey and Tom Bushey; Alice
and Mike Lerario, and Christine and Ken Dawson, as well as her twelve grandchildren:
Maggie and Adam Holcombe, Caitlin and Patrick Trebisacci, Allison and Michael Anton,
Brian Dawson, Emily and Anne Bushey, and Mary, Brigid, Rachel, John, and Bernadette
Dawson.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 19, at Our Lady of the
Mountains Roman Catholic Church in Jasper, Georgia.
In lieu of visitation, a private family memorial will be held immediately afterward at home.
Betsy Williams will be interred on Wednesday, June 21, at the Georgia Veterans’ Memorial
Cemetery, next to her husband.
