Jack Edward Wilson, Sr., born on December 24, 1929, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on July 14, 2023, at the age of 93. He was the beloved husband of his wife of 72 years, Miriam Bowman Wilson, whom he married on October 8, 1950. 
 
Jack was the son of Sallie and Jessie Wilson and was predeceased by his brothers and sister. He is survived by his children Chris Swaim (Buz), Dorie Dickinson (Randy) and Jay Wilson, and four grandchildren, Autumn (Swaim) Swann (Andrew), Honey (Swaim) Brannon (Jeff), Mike Dickinson (Sarah) and Brad Dickinson(Abbey). Jack also had 10 great-grandchildren.
 
Jack served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1950-52 on the USS Donner. He graduated from the University of Florida in 1956 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business and went on to have a successful career as a mortgage banker with Cobbs. Allen and Hall Mortgage Company. After his retirement, he owned a Rug Doctor franchise serving Central and North Alabama.
 
Jack was a devoted Christian and served the Lord in various capacities throughout his life. He was a Sunday School teacher and Deacon at Southside Baptist Church in Huntsville, Al. He also enjoyed singing in the Senior Choir of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Birmingham, Al. and taught English as Second Language. An avid outdoorsman, Jack enjoyed playing golf and building golf clubs, of which he was a certified golf club builder. He was also a passionate fan of the Florida Gators and Braves baseball. 
 
Jack was admired by all who knew him. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. Above all else, Jack was a strong believer in Jesus and he is now with the Lord.  He will be missed by all who knew him. 
 
An internment service for family and friends will be Friday, July 21 at 2 p.m. at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Ga.  A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 22 at Canton Funeral Home and Cemetery at Macedonia Memorial Park at 11:00 am. Visitation will be from 10-11:00 am.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Jack's name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or the Cherokee Humane Society.
