E-5 Sergeant USMC James Fredrick Woodworth Jr. “Woody” passed away January 12, 2017.
Woody was born in St Louis, MO and graduated from Chenoa High School in Chenoa, IL (class of ’90) where he was active in C-Club, track & field, and football. He later attended Illinois State University and Irvine College.
He joined the USMC after high school graduation; serving active duty from 1990-1994 and as a reservist from 1995-2002. He enlisted as an LAV Crewman in the 1rst Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion and served his country bravely in Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Restore Hope and Show Care. In the reserves, he served with Marine Air-Ground Task Force helping to keep peace during the LA Riots and Operation New Horizons in Jamaica. Woody returned to Chenoa where he became a volunteer fire fighter for the Chenoa Fire Department.
Woody returned to Chenoa after his service then moved to Wisconsin for several years before relocating to the Atlanta area. He enjoyed his work as a commercial driver with Fed-Ex and most recently with Scholastics Book Fairs.
He is survived by father James F. Woodworth Sr of Woodbury, MN, mother Nancy (Robert) Brenneman of Seneca, SC, siblings Chris Hermanstorfer of MN, Donnie and Robert Jr Brenneman of IN, Star (Delbert) Ibbotson of IA, Kimberly (Larry) Laverty of IA, John Woodworth the 2nd of MN, aunt Jean (Jim) Menster of IA, eight nephews, cousins, and many friends and loved ones as well as by his beloved best friend and companion, Boomer –a Rottweiler/Basset Hound dog.
He is preceded in death by brother Brian Keith, sister Jori Lei (Marty) Fresquez, grandparents Mr. & Mrs. LJ Short and Mr. & Mrs. John Woodworth and uncle Joe Short Jr.
At the time of his death, he was recently engaged to Lori Walther of Roswell, GA.
Woody will be greatly missed. Funeral Services will be held 11:00AM Monday January 23, 2017 at Canton Funeral Home and Cemetery at Macedonia Memorial Park. Interment will follow the service at Georgia National Cemetery at 1:00PM. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2:00PM-4:00PM.
