Lawrence (Larry) Joseph Deisz died peacefully in Cumming, Georgia, on September 13, 2017, at the age of 75 years old. Larry is survived by his children, Todd Deisz and spouse, Ted Lummus; daughter LauraLee Waters and spouse, Jimmy Waters; Grandchildren Jake Waters, Alexandra Waters, Haley Waters and fiancé, Alex Terry; brother Robert L. Deisz, Jr. and wife, Joan (Deisz) Vivona, MD; brother John Deisz; sister Mary Besig and husband, Dave Besig; Aunt, Ruth Melchior; as well as a number of cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Deisz of Jonesboro, Georgia, formerly of Syracuse, New York; as well as his father, Robert Lasher Deisz, Sr. and mother, Florence Winona Melchior Deisz.
Larry was born April 24, 1942 in North Syracuse, New York. He was a 1960 graduate of North Syracuse High School. He proudly served his country as a United States Marine from December 1960 through December 1966. He started work as an A&P mechanic with Eastern Airlines in 1966 in Syracuse, New York. His family later relocated with the airline to Louisville, Kentucky and finally Atlanta, Georgia. He ultimately retired from Clayton Country Government.
Larry was a loving, proud, and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He had a passion for learning and a wealth of knowledge that he enthusiastically shared with others. He loved all things military history, dancing, great music, western movies, his Syracuse heritage, and his final hometown, Atlanta Braves.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 16, from 1:00pm-3:00pm, Canton Funeral Home - 10665 East Cherokee Drive - Canton, GA - 30115, with funeral to follow in the chapel at 3:00pm. Burial to take place on Monday, September 18, 10:30am, Georgia National Cemetery - 1080 Scott Hudgens Road - Canton, GA - 30114. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Larry's life. The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to Seasons Hospice and the many caretakers that treated Larry with so much love and respect. He considered Kelly, Bill, Maureen, Ray, Lillian, Stanley, Latanja, Amber, Precious, Sabrina, Asiyah, Brittany, Anna, and so many others as friends and extensions of his family.
