Lester Dockery 87 of Alpharetta quietly passed away at his home on Monday April 5, 2021. A Georgia resident his whole life, he was a 1952 graduate of the original Milton High School in Alpharetta, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Annie Mae Dockery, his sister, Lois Hall of Alpharetta and nephew, Joel Davis of Hopewell.
Lester is survived by his wife Carol, three daughters Angela Keyser(Jody),Tena Holbrooks, Beth Selby. a son Greg Dockery(Tara) and a sister Marie Pierce. He is also survived by grandchildren Joe Rittenhouse, David Rittenhouse, Tommy Brock, Steven Doume, Christy Edwards Cook, Steven "Beau" Holbrooks, Thomas Selby, and Taylor Dockery as well as 8 great grandchildren.
Lester began working at a small Alpharetta grocer as a young teen where he was trained and began his life long profession as a butcher. He worked in several grocery stores over the years, including Big Apple, A&P, and Food Giant. All of those were located primarily in the Alpharetta and Roswell, as well as the Atlanta area.
Lester enjoyed cooking up delicious BBQ for family and friends, going fishing with his children and son-in-law working in the yard, traveling and dancing with his wife, Carol, listening to bluegrass music and playing the guitar and banjo with his son. Mr. Dockery was also a faith filled Christian and a loyal Braves baseball fan.
A visitation will be held at Canton Funeral Home from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday April 8, 2021. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:30pm on Friday April 9, 2021 at Macedonia United Methodist Church(UMC) with interment immediately following in the church cemetery.
