Mark was born on May 16th, 1953 in Atlanta, Georgia to George and Jeanne Thurman. He attended Woodward Academy, then the University of Denver from 1971 to 1974, where he studied anthropology and history. He moved to Nashville in June 1979 for work and met his wife Glenda. Mark spent his spare time studying Christian theology and Irish history, listening to Irish music, attending movies and Braves baseball games, and traveling. He loved riding motorcycles and was able to own and ride one shortly before his diagnosis and treatment. He volunteered for several years with Hospice Atlanta and Clark Howard Consumer Action Center.

Mark will be memorialized on Saturday, October 11th, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Holy Cross Anglican Church, 3836 Oak Grove Road, Loganville, Georgia. At his request Mark will be celebrated with a semi-traditional Irish wake at his home following the memorial. Donations in lieu of flowers are appreciated to Hospice Atlanta and Holy Cross Anglican Church. Both organizations supported Mark and his family in life and in death.
