Paul Thomas Hogan, 79, of Canton, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on January 1,
2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born June 30, 1945, in the Bronx, New York, to proud Irish immigrants Denis Paul and Kathleen
McLarney, Paul was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He
was the brother of Brendan, Kathleen, and Maureen. A lifelong learner, Paul attended St.
Margaret of Cortona Grammar School, All Hallows High School, and Iona College.
Paul proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army’s 4th Armored Division,
stationed in Germany. Upon returning home, he began a distinguished 21-year career with the
New York Police Department, retiring as a Sergeant. Paul’s career included assignments with the
Tactical Police Force (TPF), Bronx Narcotics, the 42nd, 46th, 44th, and 52nd Precincts, and
concluded in the Organized Crime and Narcotics Unit at Manhattan North Narcotics. His service
was marked by courage, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to justice.
Paul’s life was defined by his great passions, none more enduring than his love for his “beautiful
bride” of 54 years, Carol. Their marriage was a testament to deep love, unwavering support, and
shared adventures. Together, Paul and Carol had a passion for traveling, especially to Ireland, the
land of his heritage. They cherished exploring the Irish countryside, connecting with family
roots, and visiting with dear friends and family. These trips held a special place in Paul’s heart
and were among the many highlights of their life together.
Carol and Paul’s partnership was one of true devotion, with Carol standing steadfastly by his side
through every chapter of life. Whether dancing together to their favorite song, “You’re Still the
One,” or simply enjoying quiet evenings at home, their bond was unshakable.
Paul was a proud and loving father to Paul and Nancy and a doting grandfather, affectionately
known as “Pop,” to Declan Brady Hogan, Carrig James Hogan, Thomas John Henson, and
Matthew Paul Henson. He delighted in sharing his stories, whether recounting his youth in the
Bronx, his adventures on the police force, or the many accomplishments of his children and
grandchildren.
An avid golfer, enthusiastic soccer fan, and loyal supporter of the Mets, Jets, and Manchester
United Football Club, Paul brought his love of life and humor to every gathering.
After retiring, Paul and Carol relocated to Georgetown, South Carolina, where they enjoyed the
warm weather, golf courses, and a close-knit community of friends. Paul continued his legacy of
service as President of the Georgetown County Republican Party and as a volunteer Deputy with
the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Department.
In their later years, Paul and Carol moved to Canton, Georgia, where Paul became an active
member of the Woodmont Senior Men’s Golf Group, forming treasured friendships and creating
new memories.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Denis and Kathleen Hogan; his in-laws, Philip and
Mildred Heckelman; his sisters, Kathleen DiTomaso and Maureen Hogan; his brother-in-law,
John Heckelman; and many beloved friends and extended family members.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol; his son Paul (Allison); his daughter Nancy (Scott); his
grandsons Declan, Carrig, Thomas, and Matthew; his brother Brendan Hogan (Rosemary); his
sister-in-law Marie Heckelman; and many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
Paul’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He was a man of integrity, humor,
and unshakable devotion to his family, his faith, and his beloved Carol. His life was a journey
filled with love, laughter, and the enduring spirit of adventure he shared with the love of his life.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, January 16, 2025, from 5-7PM at Canton Funeral Home.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, at St. Michael the Archangel Roman
Catholic Church in Woodstock, Georgia, followed by a burial at the Georgia National Cemetery
in Canton.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Paul’s memory to two
organizations that were of utmost importance to him: the Wounded Warrior Project and the
Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
