Paul Bernard Ward, born October 14,1936, age 87, joined his son, Paul Jr, in heaven on December 22, 2023. Paul is survived by his wife, Ann, son, Ted, and daughter, Frances, five grandchildren Tyler Kirwin, Roya K Smith, Emma Kirwin, Hannah Ward, and Heather Ward, four great-grandchildren Sayer Kirwin, Gus Smith, Miles Smith, and Jack Waters, his sister Pat, and brother Drew along with several loving nieces and nephews.
Upon graduating from high school, Paul joined the Air Force serving as Military Police, patrolling SAC planes in Bangor, Maine with a K9 Guard Dog he, himself, trained.
After his honorable discharge, Paul lived with his parents in Miami, Florida and assisted his father on the Catholic Newspaper, The Diocesan Voice News, of which his father was the editor. Paul then joined the City of Miami police department and worked as a patrolman, "walking the beat" for 6 years. After which he became a pilot, and was hired by Eastern Airlines.
Paul had a long career which he loved, flying many models of planes such as the DC-9, B-727, L-1011 among others, moving up to the Captain's seat on an A300. When Eastern went on strike in the 1980s, Paul was hired by Saudi Arabia Airlines, and was based in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Then, moved onto Thai Airlines, based in Bangkok, Thailand. After suffering a heart attack there his flying days were over, but not his love for flying. Paul became a Simulator Flight Instructor in Minnesota until 9/11 happened. Then his career was over.
In his final days Paul devoted himself to his family and his passions for golf and gardening. The service for Paul is Friday, January 26 at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton at 3:00pm.
