Robert E. “Bob” Chester, born August 8,1927 in Camden, NJ, passed away quietly on Saturday September 29, 2022 in Ellijay, GA.
Bob graduated from Glassboro, NJ High School in 1944 and immediately enlisted in the US Navy on his 17th birthday, serving as a Gunner’s Mate 3rd class aboard the USS Ludlow (DD438) in the later stages of the Pacific Campaign and the occupation of Japan.
He was a member of the Tin Can Sailors Association, a charter member of the USS Ludlow Reunion Group. and a "Plank Owner” US Navy Memorial, Washington, DC.
After the Navy he worked many years before retiring as a laboratory supervisor with both BF Goodrich and DuPont companies (42 years service). Bob was a member of Pitman, NJ, United Methodist Church since 1954 and enjoyed coaching Little League baseball in Glassboro for several years and served as President of Brookside Swim Club in Glassboro for 2 years.
Bob was predeceased by “bride” Elizabeth (Betty) Wolfbrandt. He is survived by daughter, Kathleen M.
Glankler (John) of Roswell, GA, son Robert L. (Kim) of Ellijay, GA, a brother Don Chester of Yanceyville NC, granddaughters Jennifer
Mansfield (Eric), Katherine Taylor (Kyle) and Chelsea Glankler, grandson Zachary Glankler
(Emily), great-grandchildren Cooper, Madelyn and Brooklyn Mansfield, Caylen, Addilyn, Jadon
and Bryson Taylor and Leon Glankler.
In memory of Betty and Bob Chester, donations can be made to the Susan L. Crispin Music
Scholarship Fund at Pitman United Methodist Church, 758 N. Broadway, Pitman NJ 08071.
Canton Funeral Home is handling arrangements and Bob will be interred with Betty at the Georgia National
Cemetery in Canton, GA.
