Ronald Melton Griffis

Ronald M. Griffis, age 72 of Canton passed away Monday, April 18, 2022, at Cherokee Northside Hospital surrounded by his loving family following a heart attack. 

 

Born on October 16, 1949, in Appling County, Georgia he was the son of the late Ivey Leonard and Lula Murray Griffis. He lived all his life in the state of Georgia. He was co-owner/operator of Ace Hardware in Ashburn, GA. It was during this time in his younger life that he was known as Ronnie. During his tenure with United Parcel Service (retired) and Federal Express (retired) his name would be shortened to Ron and the affectionate name of “Big Boy”. In 2007 his name once again changed to what his last and final profession would be, and that is a full time, Papa. 

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his older sister, Glenda Griffis Cason (survived by husband Wendell). 

 

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Sue DePrattter Griffis of Canton, GA; 2 sons, Patrick Steven Griffis (wife Kristi) of Bonaire and Phillip Keith Griffis (wife Jody) of Holly Springs, GA; 7 grandchildren, Justin Griffis, Devin Griffis, Joshua Griffis, Ashlyn Copeland, Jacob Griffis, Ansley Copeland, and Katie Griffis; 1 brother, James Edward Griffis (wife Sara Joyce); 1 sister, Gwen Griffis Riggins (husband Larry). 

 

Visitation will take place on Saturday, April 23, 2022, from 10 to 12 Noon at Canton Funeral Home. Memorial Service will begin at 12 Noon.
