Sue D. Griffis, age 71 of Woodstock passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her loving family following a two- and half-year battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) or commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Born on February 5, 1952, in Ware County, Georgia she was the daughter of the late Reavis Laverne “PeeWee” and Virginia “Mamma” Jacobs DePratter. She lived all her life in the state of Georgia. She was a graduate of Ware County High School, a medical transcriptionist by trade, a housewife and a mother.
Nearing the end of her working career she discovered running. It was a sport that she fell in love with. She ran numerous marathons, 10K’s and 5K’s. Through her running career she achieved many medals and trophies for the races she participated in. In 2006 her name changed, but she made sure it was not going to be the standard grandma or granny. Her name was changed to Nan, which is what most affectionately called her.
Survivors include her two sons; Patrick Steven Griffis (wife Kristi) of Bonaire and Phillip Keith Griffis (wife Jody) of Holly Springs, GA; 7 grandchildren, Justin Griffis, Devin Griffis, Joshua Griffis, Ashlyn Copeland, Jacob Griffis, Ansley Copeland, and Katie Griffis; 2 sisters, Janice DePratter Barnes (husband Thomas) and Kathy DePratter Kovach (husband Larry).
